I’m not sure where to begin!

For both of us, this was without a doubt one of the best things we’ve ever done. 5 days, covering 92kms throughout Patagonia, self guided.

So we were off, with our 15kg rucksacks each, strapped with our tent, 5 days worth of food, our camping stove, pans and sleeping bags.

5 days worth of food was difficult to plan for, what would be nice but also help fuel us for our long days?.. Well breakfast consisted of a cereal bar and apple, lunch, a wrap plus tinned tuna (seriously dry!!), and dinner, courgette pasta.. yummy!

Patagonia is absolutely stunning,

and doing this trek in the Torres del Paine region was nothing short of breathtaking, everywhere you looked there was just the most beautiful views of mountains, glaciers, turquoise lagoons and more. The refugios were mainly based within the forests which were stunning. We put up the tent under the trees and went to the kitchens with our stove to get cooking with whatever we had rationed for the day.

Despite the fact that this was self guided, and it was just us both trekking together, we saw the same familiar faces at each refugio or when we were off to the next viewpoint throughout the day. For us both, that’s what made the trip even more special, we met a man called Michl on day 1, from Germany, who had the most amazing stories and was a very experienced hiker; we also met Evan & Dan, a father and son duo from Minnesota doing the W trek together and then 3 Brits on our second to last day.

On the final day, we set off at 1am

to make sure we reached the Las Torres base to watch the sunrise. We hiked for 12km in the dark up to the top, with Michl. The walk was insane, we saw the most amazing stars and yellow moon. Walking in the dark was an experience in itself, especially for such a long distance - turning back and looking back down the mountain in complete darkness, we saw little lights from other people also doing the sunrise walk. Once we got to the top and looked around, all the familiar faces popped up, Evan and his dad and then the 3 friends we met the day before. We all watched the sunrise, it was just so heartwarming we were all there together!

We then headed back to our refugio,

where we finished the days hike, we all had a drink together to celebrate the fact we had just completed a challenging trek and then made our way back to Puerto Natales on the bus. That evening once everyone was back, we decided to meet again for dinner one last time, all of our different groups to share some fun moments from the last few days.

All in all, it was truly the best 5 days which we will both remember forever.
